UK politics saw some heavy action in past couple of weeks as Labour Party inflicted a crushing defeat to the Conservative Party. Labour party won 412 seats while Conservative party won 121 seats. The voting percentage was 33.7 for Labour Party and 23.7 for the Conservative party. Rishi Sunak took the responsibility of the defeat.
Britain's new Prime Minister Keir Starmer will set out his first package of proposed laws on Wednesday, fleshing out how he will honour his election-winning pledge to rebuild the country after years of weak economic growth and political turmoil.
UK is plagued by low economic growth, inflation, immigration problems and internal fights in the tenure of Rishi Sunak. While people do believe that Sunak cannot be blamed for the mess, but change in guard was necessary for some fresh political atmosphere.

King Charles is going to read out the laws which the government wants the House of Commons to approve first before the start of the regular proceedings. A record 35 bills are in focus related to infrastructure development, unemployment, immigration and transport.

Starmer is one of the strongest PM in UK history with a resounding majority, but he has many domestic and international challenges to solve. With tight fiscals, Starmer has very small space for further spending on domestic infrastructure.

Housing, Roads, Railways, Defense are some of the major sectors where Starmer has to concentrate.

Rishi Sunak's dealings in various matters like unemployment, illegal immigration and UK's involvement in Russia- Ukraine war always drew flak from the opposition. Starmer has to prove that he is more capable to solve issues related to these areas.

The Ukraine-Russia war will test the diplomatic skills of Starmer as he has to strike a balance between US and fellow NATO members and the Russia- China axis. The British Supply of arms and ammunition to UK has already made UK a target of Russia and Starmer would like to tone down the tension between two nuclear power states.

Recently Starmer has offered a olive branch to Indo-UK relationship and tried to scale down the anti India image tagged with the Labour party. He has assured the Indian PM Narendra Modi that he would not tolerate any anti Indian sentiments to brew inside his party and all such members are being taken care of.

Hopes are high on Kier Starmer to perform and bring some fresh air to the UK politics but considering the stress in the system, it has to be seen how the new PM handles the crunch situation in the coming months.
